and Nature into Worship
Garden Aerial 800px.jpg

The Sanctuary and Memorial Garden is a space that affirms God’s revealed presence in nature. It is:

  • A gathering place for small services of worship, baptism, commemoration and education.

  • Open to members of the Church and wider community as a quiet space for contemplation, prayer and remembrance.

  • A designated space for spreading the ashes of CCC members and family.

The garden is a sanctuary for all.

The Sanctuary and Memorial Garden extends our worship space beyond the walls of our beautiful and historic church. It encourages us to recognize the sanctity and beauty of the created world, to learn from its wonders and deepen our relationship with God. Whether for quiet meditation or prayer, communal worship, commemorative services or Sunday School classes, the garden is a space of welcome and peace, bringing worship into nature and nature into worship.

The garden has been designed and constructed in a manner consistent with our commitment to being good stewards of the earth. Sustainable landscaping practices are employed using a variety of native plants that are attractive to pollinators and people alike. Biodiversity and careful consideration of the ecosystem help alleviate plant diseases and insect pests and reduce maintenance.

Designed by landscape architect Cynthia Knauf and installed by Church Hill Landscapes, the garden was dedicated by associate pastor Susan Kittredge on October 12, 2025, with these words:

"We believe that God’s essence dwells in and through all creation and time. In reverence, awe and gratitude, we therefore dedicate this garden of earth, plants, wood, and stone as a sanctuary for all who seek solace, inspiration, and peace in this life and in the life to come".

The sanctuary and memorial garden is now available for:

  • Small services of worship, baptism, commemoration, and education.

  • Weddings.

  • For the disbursement of ashes of CCC members and family.

  • Engraved memorials (name, year of birth, year of death).
