World Religions Course

For youths in grades 6-8

This spring (2016), Susan will be leading a course in World Religions for youth in grades 6-8. We will examine the culture, faith and practices of Hindus, Buddhists, Muslims and Jews. Though this will of necessity be a very cursory introduction, the hope is that by learning about these religions we will come to respect our differences and embrace our common humanity. It has been noted recently by several scholars and world leaders that peace in the Middle East will not likely be brokered by politicians but rather in the mosques and synagogues by rabbis, imams and monks.

Our first meeting will be on Sunday, March 6th in the vestry from 4:30-6 pm and is open to the wider community as well. We will be welcoming members of the Vermont Hindu Temple who will come to speak with us. Please spread word of this course and invite others to come.

Subsequent dates: Sunday March 13th, 4:30-6 pm

                                Sunday March 20th, 4:30-6 pm

                                Sunday April 3rd,    4:30-6 pm

                                Sunday April 10th,   4:30-6 pm

In order to insure that we have materials for all participants, registration would be greatly appreciated. Please contact Rev. Susan: scookekitt@mac.com, 985-5617.

Bible Study Course March 2016

In March and April 2016, we will offer a Bible Study focusing on the New Testament, using the Dickinson series, “Exploring the Bible.”

"And she wrapped him in swaddling clothes and laid him in a manger." Jesus is the central figure of the New Testament and this third volume in the popular Exploring the Bible series examines Jesus in three distinct ways: A man like other men, a Jewish rabbi, and the Christ of Christian faith. Then it's on to the cantankerous Paul, the other New Testament authors, and the wild and baffling book called Revelation. Learn what Nazareth was like in the first century, discover what scholars know and don't know about Jesus as a historical figure, and explore how Paul really wrote all those letters. And who is the Antichrist anyway?

Please join us for this fascinating and provocative introductory exploration of the New Testament. Books will be available at church on Friday, February 26th for $15 each.

This class will be offered two times a week, on Tuesday mornings at 9:30 am and on Wednesday evenings at 7 pm.

Tuesday mornings:    March 8, 15, 22, 29th and April 5,12 at 9:30 am. Rev. Susan will lead this class.

Wednesday evenings: March 9, 16, 23, 30 and April 6, 13 at 7 pm. Rev. Arnold will lead this class.
